Public Speaking? Can I?

I never thought that I can speak in front of a large crowd. I had a low self esteem before this. Talk to no people was my life. Love to spend my time in my room play games and surf the internet. Maybe this talent of mine not talking to people made me an engineer. A profession that does not required much talking. Only talking with machine and report. That's it. Even when I had to do presentation to my boss, there were butterflies in my stomach.

I'm not a speaker in nature. Some people I met were born with this sort of talent of too much talking. I have no talent in giving speech. I wondered how people can talk and talk for hours and even in a very large crowd. How they have confidence in giving and adding values to others. Debating certain topics as to give facts that one can't lose. But anything can be learned. And talent will come out when you want to learn about it. It was always inside you.

And with all these, I was thinking how I can do it. I need to challenge myself and see whether I have it naturally. Challenge is good for me because it makes me wiser and more mature. New skills to be learned. Great leaders have this skill of speaking in public. This is how the leaders show their confident and influence people.

I now can speak in front of a large crowd with enthusiasm and I love it. I feel the adrenaline rushing in my vein to give the very best. For the people who listen to my ideas, experience and knowledge. I learned so much from people who has experience in public speaking and read about it too.

One of the great leader and speaker

Public speaking is one of the most fearful thing that people don't want to do. That people put it best to avoid it. It needs courage and confidence to give a good speech. In my humble opinion when you can overcome this fear, you can have more confidence in your life. Your will even have the ability to control your fear.

This Sunday I will stand in front of a crowd of more than 600 people. I feel great to have this opportunity and given a chance to give my very best. Its a great experience to talk to a large crowd and touch them in their heart.

Here I want to share a few tips that maybe you can use to overcome the fear in public speaking and the preparation before you speak. This tips maybe useful when you have to make your presentation to your boss or your lecturer.

1. Know what you are saying
2. Understand what you are saying
3. Talk in a language that people can understand
4. Imagine that you are great
5. Preparation is vital
6. If you feel uncomfortable in looking into the audience eyes, look into the crowd in general or look in between a person eyes. It will look like that you are looking into that person eyes
7. Don't think of what people think about you standing in front of them because there are not thinking of you
8. Practice practice and keep practicing
9. Be yourself. Have your own style of speaking

One of the suggestion is that if you can mind map of what you are going to say it will be an advantage to you. A mind map can make things more organize and you can remember the points you want to say more clearly.

Hope this will help a bit for those who want to develop their confidence in public speaking. And even in other areas of life. I took this advantage of public speaking to develop my self confident and not to let fear control me.

Have fun...

Just for once in World History: good spam of a message that impossibly could be made known otherwise. I am not anyone. I am unique.

Networking with an audience before giving the speech is helpful, too, if circumstances permit.

Here's how one person connected with his audience and managed his fear of public speaking.

In my recently published pre-teen novel, the main character, Ian, has to undergo some management training. However, he almost backs out when he discovers that public speaking is part of the deal!

He sticks with it, though and learns an interesting technique from one of his Google searches. It helps him immensely. It's all about how to mingle with people before an event. He tries some of the tips. He helps his new friend, Elise, with some administrative functions prior to class and it gives him an opportunity to chat with some of the other class members. He discovers that they have the same fears he does. It makes him feel a lot better. And, in the process of going around the room, he feels kind of like a host. It's a real confidence builder!

All the best!
